THE OPPORTUNITY:

Our client is a privately-owned 450+ head, premium cattle operation along with 1,000 acres of tenant farmed land. In total, the property encompasses nearly 5,000 acres and is home to an array of native flora and fauna along with rural recreational options and designated spaces.

Our client offers a special opportunity to organize & systematize a multi-function, historic property of size along with managing the existing staff as the team leader. You’ll have the chance to further design, build, and help grow a debt-free, family-owned, rural ranching and farming operation. This role also asks that the candidate help blueprint and curate an exceptional, private recreational experience for family, friends and guests.

We’re looking for a highly organized ranch, farm and estate manager to oversee all aspects of the property, lead staff, and sensibly lead growth initiatives where appropriate. The goal is for a good blend of profitable land stewardship and enjoyment between agriculture, entertainment, and recreation.

Ideally someone will have 5+ years experience in livestock management as well as a history in people leadership. While the backbone of the operation is cattle, the property also has an historic residence, additional guest and employee houses, timber, riding horses, mule wagons, hunting dogs, as well as private hunting and fishing and an heirloom hog operation. Additionally, there is also a 1,000 acre farm with recreational duck hunting in West TN, leased to a seasoned row crop operator, that will need occasional management attention. 

You will be an innovative, driving force behind the profitable operation of a working cattle ranch and farm as well as the manager-leader of an accessible rural retreat.

THE ROLE:

Director of Farm and Estate Management

The Director of Farm and Estate Management is the key representative for the overall farm, reporting and working directly with ownership to profitably manage the cattle and farming operations, organize and maintain multiple land use projects, and lead estate staff. Outstanding candidates are keen problem solvers who focus on efficiency and take a hands-on approach to managing operations, the properties, and the team. The Director is the leader of the management team and serves as the point person between ownership, grounds and home staff, as well as suppliers and neighbors. A strong cultural fit is essential.

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Overall Management: Lead and oversee all aspects of the ranch, farm, land, and estate with relative autonomy, recommending improvements and ensuring efficient and profitable operations.

  • Project Leadership: Liaise with farm stakeholders and partners to develop and manage project proposals, source materials, and oversee project completion for farm improvements and initiatives. This includes planning, execution, completion, while leading responsibly through conflict resolutions.

  • Cattle/Ranch Operations: Manage the cattle herd, ensure animal health and optimal production, manage fencing, monitor grazing management and pasture quality. An understanding of commodity markets is a plus.

  • Financial Management: Implement job costing practices to track project expenses and farm profitability. Pricing, cost analysis, materials acquisition, etc.

  • Human Resources: Supervise and provide direction to the team. Foster a positive and productive work environment. Ensure all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.

  • Maintenance of Equipment: Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.

  • Wildlife Management: Oversee wildlife conservation efforts on the property.

  • Community Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact with neighboring landowners, promoting positive relationships and communication.

  • Cultivating an World Class Experience: You'll help curate an unforgettable rural and historic farm experience.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in agricultural management or a related field. Additional courses in business management or administration are recommended.

  • Proven experience in a combination of farm management, livestock management, human resources, project management, estate management, and leadership.

  • General knowledge of production, markets, and supply chain processes of agricultural commodities

  • Strong understanding of cattle production practices.

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Proficiency in financial management and basic job costing techniques.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • A commitment to increasing land value through strategic projects

  • Physical capability to be active and move about a working ranch/farm, assisting where needed.
